Step 7
Lay off all of your deadwood cards onto the knockers melds. Your opponent now has an opportunity to lay their deadwood cards onto your cards to contribute to melds.
Step 8
Lay off your cards only if gin has not been reached. If either you or your opponent reaches "gin" and knocks, there will be no laying off.
